For farm folks 2007 has been a challenge...we are not complaining, just letting you folks know how it is. The dry spring and then late cold snap have really hurt the hay crop this year. Yields are around 1/4 what they should be for us so far. The dry spring followed by the dry start to summer has us wondering about the rest of our summer. Most of our little plants have enough water to germinate when we sow them with our transplanter, but as the weeks roll by without a shower from above things start to get crispy and then the bugs move in to prey on our weak plants. So far we have run several lines of drip irrigation to help things through, but there is simply no way we can irrigate everything. Irrigation will patch things through, but you need RAIN to make things grow. Hopefully there is some on the way!
