I love everything about America really. I love the ability to agree and disagree peacefully. I for sure do not always agree, but I very much appreciate the fact that we have a system in place for us to voice our opinions and learn more about how government works. So many things have come down the pike the last few years that despite my claim to "not be a political person" I am actually quite active and I am sure my representatives could attest to that. However, I am very thankful that I can voice my opinion without the threat of jail, persecution etc. Not all nations can say this, very few can actually.
That said, I believe that America is at a crossroads. We have a decision to make if we want to live in the same "America" that we grew up in. We need to decide to stand up for what we believe in. Everyone has different beliefs and things they feel strongly about. My feelings for and about America can be summed up by Abraham Lincoln.
On April 30, 1863, in a proclamation for a national day of fasting and prayer, Lincoln wrote:
"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness."
God, please forgive us for turning away from You, from assuming we don't need You anymore. Apart from You, we are nothing. In You, all things are possible. Help us to choose You and your ways, for your ways keep us out of trouble. Give us boldness to stand for You in our daily lives. God please have mercy on us, humble us and God, please bless America.
