I know we are told to read all of the Bible, but for the past few months I just simply cannot get out of the Psalms. I am stuck there, in a good way. I am almost dependent on the words of Psalms for my daily life.
There are lots of things going on in Vaughn personal and extended family life. Most of it is good, but some of it is hard to watch. I still cannot explain why some of us must suffer in pain, I still don't know why cancer is so viscious, I still cannot explain why our bodies do not work as well as our minds and souls sometimes. It is a mystery to me. One that honestly I have really "struggled" with God over in the past.
That is the good thing about life and being able to learn from it. I learned in a big way in the past that God truly is GOOD ALL THE TIME. It may not appear that way, but I cannot see the whole picture and who am I to judge? I have been humbled by the Almighty in a way that has brought about so much peace in the midst of breaking hearts. It is uncomprehensible, unimaginable to be able to truly say "it is well with my soul" but yet I truly mean that.
King David and the other psalmists are just perfect in their descriptions of their "enemies" out to get them. Sometimes these are real enemies with feet and swords and horses and sometimes these are the enemies we can't see: depression, stress, OVERWHELMEDNESS (yes i just made that word up!), sorrow, and hurt.
True peace in my life comes day by day, walking it out with God, telling Him over and over that I do not understand and I probably never will, but I do trust Him--and would He please help me? Help others to feel His peace in the midst of their pain? And He does, to those who will wait upon Him.
Psalm 33 in my Bible has the title of "Who is in Charge?"
Here are some of my favorite parts:
For all Gods words are right and everything He does is worthy of our trust. He loves whatever is just and good, the earth is filled with His tender love. Let everyone in all the world--men, women and children fear the Lord and stand in awe of Him. For when He but spoke the world began! It appeared at His command! And with a breath he can scatter the plans of all the nations who oppose Him, but HIS own plan stands FOREVER. His intentions are the SAME for every generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people He has chosen as His own. The Lord gazes down upon mankind from heaven where He lives. He has made their hearts and CLOSELY watches everything they do. The eyes of the Lord are watching over those who fear Him, who RELY upon HIS STEADY LOVE. No wonder we are happy in the Lord! For we are trusting Him. We trust His HOLY name. Yes LORD, let your CONSTANT LOVE surround us, for our HOPES are in YOU ALONE.
Yes Lord, day by day, step by step, tear by tear I am trusting in YOU. In you alone will I trust for you made my heart, you watch over it, you love me no matter what, but you are closest to me when I am trusting in you--no matter what--for this I am ever so Thankful!
Many blessings to you all this Thanksgiving and upcoming Christmas season!
